:( :( :(

An optic fibre break (telecom company) about 40km outside Kruger Gate (just outside Hazyview) left Kruger without data comms from 10:15 this morning. According to the telecom company, the cable melted as a result of a veld fire just outside Hazyview. The telecom company spliced/replaced the damaged optic fibre cable.

All comms have been restored now.

Happy camming!

Awesome, thanks Danie!

Has the fire got into Kruger at all? Sorry about my incurable nosyness!

Hi Meg
No, not as far as I know - this veld fire was quite a distance from Kruger's boundary. It was a normal road-side fire that melted the fibre (Telecom company's fibre is an overhead cable running next to the main road).

The Leopard tolerates variable climatic conditions and occurs in a wide range of habitats. Found from coastal areas to elevations of 2000 m above sea level in forests, deserts, semi-deserts, bushveld, mountains, woodlands and rocky areas. They are not dependant on surface water.
I like this fact:-
They pluck fur off the carcass before starting to feed on the softer parts of the body.
And here is something for those non-believers:-
They are agile climbers and when there is competition from other predators the carcass will be cached out of reach in the fork of a large tree.

Freda - I was surprised just how well they do climb and how comfortable they are in trees. They are also very strong are they not?
