Our technicians at Orpen confirmed that the power supply to the camera at the waterhole was destroyed by lightning/power surge and must be replaced. Let's hope there is no damage to the Orpen webcam itself as it is not possible to test without the power supply which was fried.

We hope to have it online ASAP again. Expect a delay in the repair as the new power supply has to be procured and shipped from Gauteng and then installed.

The power supply of the webcam has been procured and arrived and the technicians will be driving from Gauteng to Orpen to replace the power supply before the end of the week and they will also check the webcam itself for lightning damage. Let's hope it is only the power supply! . They are scheduled to be at Orpen on 27 Nov 2015.
Thanks for your patience!

We really hope so MATTHYS!

The technicians are already leaving early tomorrow morning for KNP but they have scheduled installations to do @ Pafuri, Punda M, Mopani, Satara and then Orpen on their way out on Friday.

Orpen webcam's power supply was indeed faulty and it was replaced this past Friday (for the technical minded amongst us it is a 24V AC 2A power supply).

Good news is the webcam was also tested by the technicians and it is ok and was not damaged by the lightning. Bad news is that the whole electrical feed from Orpen Camp itself to the water hole was damaged and there is still no power at the water hole including the flood light.

This will be fixed soon! Apologies for the delay!

Thanks for the heads up Rita. I have passed on the message.

Regarding the light at Addo - the park are aware of the situation and also aware that we would like the light to be stronger and on all night, but it causes some disturbances from other points in the park. I am sure SANParks will update us on this soon - probably after the holidays.

Just a heads up!

Hi all, Orpen webcam will be down today. The team is currently working on the waterhole trying to put some rocks as suggested to chase the hippos away and allow other animals to have access to the water.

And I think the Nossob cam is slowly getting more off course? :hmz:

It is so wonderful to see all the green growth in the Nossob river.
Can some one fix the cam to the first position?
and.
there used to be 2 floodlights at night.
but it is a long time now I notice only the right hand side is working.

Orpen webcam is still down due to an issue the telecommunications service provider is experiencing on their data link to Orpen (affecting the whole of Orpen incl the webcam). I have put pressure on them yesterday to resolve the issue ASAP but so far they have not been able to. Apologies for this!

Orpen Webcam went on an "expedition of its own" the past day or two! It decided to chose different angles to show to you on its own without prior authorisation from forumites ;)

I reprogrammed all the preset angles again and Orpen Webcam is behaving again now! Apologies for that!

We are experiencing connection issues via satellite to Nossob (on and off) and Satara is also experienicng local issues with comms to the cam itself. The technical guys are looking into it.

Happy camming!

Orpen cam :naughty:
Orpen cam decided last night again to "change" the pre-programmed route it is following. Apologies! :?

I rebooted the cam twice this morning and reprogrammed all the preset positions again. It seems to be fine now.

I am sure Orpen Cam will now behave again!

Apologies for Orpen cam not behaving normally!

I have switched the touring option off now on the Orpen cam and you will only have a static view for now (single angle). I have requested my colleagues @ Orpen to do a physical check on the webcam as there seems to be a gremlin somewhere (normal reboots do not help!). Sometimes a cold start fixes this (power/on off like a PC) and that can only be done from Orpen itself and not remotely.
