This one used to return every year to a tree outside my bedroom window when I lived in Nelspruit. Him and his SO could be seen almost every day in summer. This pic was taken from my bedroom window.

Saw these guys last week a few Kms out of Berg en Dal. I am a fledgling birder and we had no idea what we saw till I saw this post. Not the best pic but definitely the same bird, I really thought I had spotted some sort of sun bird because of the color but hey what do I know but it was a nice sighting.

I seem to be lucky with these birds! There were quite a few on the S125 last month.

I saw another post elsewhere of someone who was looking for a Violet Backed Starling which reminded me of a sighting I had but couldn't identify but thought it might be this bird due to the colour. However it was quite far away so may not be possibly to identify.

Garyd73, those do look like Violet-backed starlings. Where did you see them?
