Duck, Fulvous Whistling

Unread post by Johan van Rensburg » Wed Feb 05, 2014 3:01 pm

One of the most widespread species of waterfowl in the world, the Fulvous Whistling Duck is a summer breeding migrant to southern Africa. They are found on the African, Asian and the two American continents.

This handsome duck is usually very tough to get close too, so when I found this confident little pod at a small wetland at Austin Roberts, I appreciated the opportunity to get close-ups.

In South Africa they are infrequently seen in the north eastern sector. They seem to like the central highlands (Gauteng) where they are often a common sight.
