Phokojwe wrote:BB: this was west of the high water bridge (H1-4) towards Phalaborwa on the northern shore.

The first was one we saw on the 06th September was also further west but on the southern shore

Wonderful  That makes at least 3 known Pel's sites on the Olifants River.

Finally got to see this owl after many years of hunting for it - and realised that actually it's not so much about the owl but the places it takes you. Wrote this blog about it http://www.redwingstarling.co.za/2015/0 ... g-owl.html

Redwingstarling.....that is amazing.     What a sighting. I hope that it is an indication of this shy and elusive bird being more 'present' than we realize. Not sure if the goldfish were that happy. :hmz:

For those of you who don't follow Latest Sightings on social media, a Pels was spotted on the S3 a few kilos from Kruger Gate. When last was a Pels spotted on the Sabie?

Exciting - we will be around the Balule area in December and, though I suppose we will not have the benefit of stiffneck insider information, there is still am outside chance we could see a Pels. I have only seen it once in my life and the weird thing was that I was not even looking for it. I passed a large tree on the H10 and, for some unknown reason, happened to glance back into its shade. There, perched in all its glory was a Pels. At first I did not believe it, but after struggling to keep the binoculars still from overexcitement, there was no doubting the large size and unmistakeable head. Who knows if I will ever see another one, but Kruger has a way of blowing away the opposition, especially if the odds against are large. :D

Saw a pair with Joh 4 hours ago, in trees in the first tributary upstream of the Balule bridge over the Olifants on the Balule side.

Howzat for precise Stiffneck insider info OWN?
