Lark, Pink-billed

Unread post by Lizet Grobbelaar » Fri Nov 20, 2009 6:40 pm

Pink-billed Lark Spizocorys conirostris
Afrikaanse naam: Pinkbeklewerik

Description:
A Small lark with a short distinctive pinkish bill, with rich rufous-buff underparts which contrast with the white throat and unstreaked flanks and buff outer tail feathers.

Status:
Nomadic in the west, near endemic.

Habitat:
Short open grasslands, fallow fields and desert shrubs. This one was photographed in the Kgalagadi TFP between the dunes just outside Tweeriveren Camp on the way to Mata-Mata. They had good rains that year.

Identification Help - General Birds

Unread post by arks » Tue Jun 29, 2010 7:01 pm

More of my mystery birds, not quite sure of my ID on this.

1. At first I thought it was another larklike bunting, but with the streaking on the chest, I;m now thinking that it may be a pinkbilled lark? Seen in KTP in March 2010.

I saw the Pink-billed Lark as a lifer a couple of weeks ago, but no photos.
on 08/07/2017 I went atlassing with bird club members in the Leandra area, and we saw about 20! Getting them to pose for photos was a challenge, but I managed a few! I have to admit, I am "tickled pink-billed" about this!
