A different time of year

Unread post by jacquiandphil » Mon May 01, 2017 11:22 am

We usually visit Kruger in July/August or September.
This year we lashed out on an extra air fare for an additional visit in March/April. The first day we were wowed by a totally different bird, inching back and forth in car to get it in the best light but many photos later looked it up and saw we'd seen our first European roller. When we usually come it's not here. I gather it is common, this explained why no one else was stopping to photo them. We were enthralled. It's such fun to see something new.
However my favourite bird is still the Lilac breasted roller. Oh and we saw a cabman bee eater too

So glad you found your first European Roller in Kruger jacquiandphil! They are plentiful during that time of the year and are really beautiful! This non-breeding migrant departs in March-April. They breed in Europe, Middle East and Asia.

I forgot to ask: What is a Cabman Bee-eater? :hmz:
