I don't see a topic for this bird, so here's one that I saw at Marakele NP in early April 2012.

:hmz: maybe Marakele would be a good place to spend a weekend.... are they common there or was it a lucky sighting arks?

To answer your question, Dabchick: Pied babblers are quite common in the drier parts of the bushveld, which includes the thornveld areas south and west of the Waterberg. So you should have a fair chance of spotting them over a weekend there at Marakele.
For interest sake: Their social habits are very interesting and there is currently a scientific study being done on a specific group in the Kgalagadi. Perhaps someone on these forums have up-to-date info on this study that they can share?

This bird is fairly regularly seen along the Zaagkuil road and in Rust-der-Winter.
