help on birding guides

Unread post by El-Bok » Fri Apr 08, 2016 3:56 pm

Hey everyone just booked myself a special trip to Kruger and taking my young lad. Does anyone know if there are any "kids" bird guides that I could get for him as like a started pack? Especially if there are any destructo boy proof

I am not necessarily a lightie, but am young (24) and have also started birding in recent times. There is so much material out there it is almost scary and overwhelming when looking at what is going on.

A book that helped me just come to terms with plenty of the basic birds, but also bird families is "300 easy-to-see birds", its part of the Sasol range. It has taken me to a basic level where I can ID a bird to within a family (seedeater etc.) and then I consult my Roberts and Sasol bird books for the next step.

I also got my little cousin (7 years old) one of the 300 Easy To See Birds books, and he loves it and finds it relatively easy to use. His parents got him the Sappi sound book - and he is crazy about that, I think he can ID more birds on sound than sight to be honest...

Hope this helps!
