Birding School for Ducklings: 2017

Unread post by hilda » Tue Jan 10, 2017 4:21 pm

Dear fellow Ducklings,

I trust that you all had a lovely Festive Season, and that you are refreshed and looking forward to another year of Duckling Challenges!

The 1st Duckling Challenge for 2017 will be posted on Monday, 16 January 2017 by barryels! Please get all your family and friends to participate in these challenges during the year, to ensure that we don't have to close it down. As you all know, Barry and myself sponsored Bird Guides in the past to try and motivate more 'mites to participate, so that the Challenge Masters don't feel they are wasting there time for six or seven participants only. After more than a year we realised that it didn't make a difference in the number of participants, and decided not to offer bird guides for grabs anymore. :(

If you can think of another motivator, kindly let us know.

Should you want to refer back to previous Duckling Challenges with their answers, kindly refer to Index to Birding school for Ducklings Challenges.

I wish you all a very happy and successful birding year during 2017!

PS: Kindly note that the Duckling Challenges will also be posted bi-weekly, like the Bird ID Challenges, to give those people who are working during the day enough time to participate in these challenges. The answers to Duckling Challenge #1/2017 will be posted two weeks later, on 30 January 2017.

Dear Ducklings

SurfCindy took up the invitation to come up with another motivator and she came up with a great idea that might result in more Ducklings participating in these challenges during 2017!

As a motivator, she suggested we keep a scoreboard where you get a point for each correct identification (first submission only). This will be a running tally throughout the year, which will show the Duckling who made the most progress and will give you an overall winner at the end of the year.

It will also show the Duckling who participated in the most challenges, which will also be taken into consideration when the winner is determined. Also keep in mind that only challenges with 10 or more Ducklings participating will be taken into consideration to determine the winner.

Results will not be posted on the forum, since not all want their results visible to all. Your “status” will be posted to you by the CM together with your results per challenge in a PM.

Just a reminder why this topic was started: HERE:

JenB wrote:Who can participate?
Only birders with less than 50% average at the ID challenges or anyone not ready to participate there. 8)

The overall winner at the end of the year will receive this prize, sponsored by Barry and myself:

Thank you for the first Duckling Challenge of 2017 barryels! I really hope a lot of new Ducklings will start participating, since these challenges are much easier than the Bird ID Challenges! Of course all are more than welcome to take part in the Bird ID Challenges as well! The more the merrier, and you can only learn something new! Have a great birding year all!
