Thanks Johan :gflower: (I was really sticking my neck out here, usually just wait to see what the experts say)

@sandeep: No, lanner falcons (both sexes) have buff/pale chests. I find that (in addition to a good field guide) the forum's bird index can be very helpful, as can this website.

Neither am I, but I would agree with juvenile Martial Eagle Pumbaa!

Hell Salamanda, if I saw that whilst out in the field I would almost certainly write it off as a BBJ and carry on.

Looking at the pic and taking into account the time of year you saw it.. I would probably look at something like a African Hawk-Eagle in between Juv-Ad plumage, even a Black Chested Snake-Eagle springs to mind.. I really can't say for sure though.

Pumbaa's pic does look like a Wahlberg's pale form. Agree with DotDan

Thanks so much umtali, Hilda, DotDan and Sandeep, :gflower: :k

as I already saw a juvenile martial I was quite sure that this was another raptor and never saw a pale form of the Wahlberg but would also go for that as this raptor did not had the seize of a martial so Wahlberg would fit

Looks like it might be a pale chanting goshawk just moulting from juvenile to adult plumage? But I'm no expert ...
