How many birds on your list

Unread post by francoisd » Tue Mar 01, 2005 10:17 am

This thread is here for any forum member to list their current southern African bird list total. As your total change just post it here and I’ll update your information. The list will be updated ± every 2 weeks if totals have changed.

Remember that no list is too short to be listed and it might just be the encouragement you need to do some more birding. So start listing and happy birding to you all!

Zim trip delivered 15 lifers. Then I got an unexpected bonus at St Lucia to take me to 715

I don't expect to add anymore before month end, but if I trip over a lifer before then, I'll amend this post.

Trip to Zim & St Lucia yielded 13 including some of the most radical birding I have ever done to get a flufftail and 3 crakes in minutes.

now on 763

check the order on the list in that area please Albert.

I visit the Ebb & Flow section of the Garden Route National Park fairly regularly; since I started birding seriously about 4 years ago I have searched diligently for a glimpse of the Knysna Woodpecker when we walked in the forests around the Wilderness area; several times I found woodpeckers (most notably Cardinal and Olive), but no Knysna Woodpecker...Finally, on January 24 we were walking the Half-collared Kingfisher trail when some falling leaves alerted us to activity in the trees above; a quite dark section of the forest; scanning the trees soon revealed a pair of Knysna Woodpeckers. Chasing the ISO setting on the camera up to 6400 allowed for some shots of one of the birds...

Image

Anyhow, with this bird and the Sandwich Tern found the next day at Agulhas, I now move to 457
