Of course you can jaffles! In fact, PLEASE DO!

It started in 2005 with this first post:

francoisd wrote:This thread is here for any forum member to list their current southern African bird list total. As your total change just post it here and I’ll update your information. The list will be updated ± every 2 weeks if totals have changed.

Remember that no list is too short to be listed and it might just be the encouragement you need to do some more birding. So start listing and happy birding to you all!

Only difference is, francoisd is not updating the list anymore, Albert is doing it now.

Just returned from 2017 Flock at sea organized by Birdlife SA. They say timing is everything and on the first morning between 7h00 and 9h00 the MEGAs, and I really mean MEGAS came out in all their glory.

The official list of possible birds was split into 4 categories i.e. Likely species, Reasonable chance, Aseasonal species with a chance and Outside chance rarities. When I showed Trevor Hardaker the list he said that it should rather be something like Likely species, Not really, Fanciful and No hope in Hell!

I resigned myself to getting most of the Likely species and hopefully some inroads on the rest, setting my target at 8. Well I was standing next to the same TH when a light mantled albatross flew in close. TH almost fell overboard! This bird had only been seen in our region before by 2 birders and was not even on the list! How many people have been standing next to TH when he gets a lifer. And this just after the 'Reasonable' sooty albatross flew past and at least 4 white headed petrels from NHIH list had been seen. All in all, only half of my 14 lifers on the Flock cruise were 'Likely'.

In Likely to NHIH sequence

Southern Giant Petrel
Northern Giant Petrel
Great-winged Petrel
Soft-plumaged Petrel
Antarctic Prion
European Storm Petrel
Leach's Storm Petrel

Tristan Albatross
Sooty Albatross
Grey Petrel
Black-bellied Storm Petrel

Kerguelen Petrel
White-headed Petrel

Light mantled Albatross.

I saw Ladybirder there too, so she will probably also get a good bump up, but she flies straight to Serengeti tonight. 'Sleep when you're dead'!

Other forumites I saw there that I recognized were Batmad & Deefstes.

Oh yes Albert, please put me on 778.
