Our short trip to Strom River added Kelp Gull and African Black Oystercatcher to our list, as well as Red-knobbed Coot, Black Cuckoo, Fiscal Flycatcher, Little Grebe and Little Bittern to our list whilst Bush Baptist went birding with us whilst in Pretoria.

With the above lifers our list grew from 172 with (+7) to 179  .

That is a healthy 34 bird increase, Sky! How many of those can be attributed to the Bash?

I started birding 20 yrs ago when my husband introduced me to it. So my 20 year list totals 269 :(

269 over 20 years is not very impressive, but with a new trip to Kruger coming up shortly I hope to add more lifers to my list,

The Forum has really inspired me, so here's holding thumbs

Time for an update:
First, a camping trip to Wilderness added 15 (I think) lifers; amongst these were:

African Paradise and Blue-mantled Crested Flycatchers
Amethyst Sunbird
Sombre Greenbul
African Marsh Harrier
Cape and Forest Canaries, Streaky-headed Seedeater and Common Waxbill
African Reed-warbler

On the way home we picked up a White Stork (alongside the N2 at Swellendam)

Then: a thoroughly fantastic day at the West Coast National Park netted a further 17 new ticks.
For me the notables were

Black Harrier, Osprey and Eurasian Hobby (the latter was on the way home near Hermon)
The rest was mostly a slew of waders: Common, Curlew and Marsh Sandpipers, Common Ringed and Grey Plovers, Common Greenshank, Common Whimbrel (most of the birds I see appear to be "Common" :D ), Eurasian Curlew, South African Shelduck, Pied Avocet, Little Stint, Cape Gannet and an accidental Caspian Tern. Also came across a pair of Kittlitz's Plovers mating (not a lifer, but a few good photographs).

All of this means that I am now up to 271

An unexpected lifer for me showing a birdingpal some Cape specialities, sentinel rock thrush means I am now on 602
Whatever (according to BB): "You are correct but I don't want to admit it".
