My local birding has been so poor recently that I've actually gone backwards...

I lost both Long-tailed and Kimberley Pipits from my list and gained back one with the split of Cory's and Scopoli's Shearwaters, both of which I have seen and photographed on our pelagic trips, so with a nett loss of 1 bird, my latest Southern African total is now 907...

Definitely need to start making some plans to add a few more to that if I can... :hmz:

A paper has recently been published refuting the descriptions of both Long-tailed and Kimberley Pipits as good species and saying that their original descriptions were based on erroneous information and those species should have never existed in the first place...

So, from having 2 species that were considered to be countable, those species no longer exist and therefore, we have all "lost" them...

At least, from your current position, you can only go upwards and should hopefully not have to face the issue of going backwards... :D

Today I decided to take some time out to sort through my life list as it was in need of a clean up (the last time I looked through it was back in 2009) as well as correlation with my big year list, and boy am I thankful I did, there were some dodgy records from when I started birding 7 years back so of course those were removed but that didn't make much a dent in my list as my big year this year has seen me add more lifers than I originally thought and some birds I thought I had seen I had in fact not, and thus my revised, up to date life list sits on 708
