Identification help - spurfowl rolls in rhino poop

Unread post by nobradors » Wed Apr 16, 2014 11:19 am

Hi!
While on our safari in KNP we came across this nice yet filthy bird, which I cannot identify. Some kind of fowl (Red-necked Spurfowl? Swainson's?). The legs were blueaish in colour, and what made it brand into our memories is the fact it was most happily and delightedly wallowing in rhino poop like there's no tomorrow.
Thanks in advance!

Swainson's... Lots of fun to be in a rhino midden; lots of bits to eat also!

A red-necked spurfowl has red legs as well. Distribution range falls outside of KNP.

Thank you! I love game meat, but on seeing this beauty I vowed never to eat one! I prefer more appetizing marinades...
