(in this case, refer to the post above for the alternate route)

Hi. Are there any updates on this route yet? We need to get from Mapungubwe to Pafuri via Musina. If not passable, we'll go via R521. Thanks! Regards
Mary

Nope, with a VW Polo :D You'll be fine.

Actually your slightly more concerning problem is the detour on the R525 at Masisi, as it is NOT very well marked heading east. As you approach the blocked road ahead, where the road washed away, there is a farm gate on yor left and that's the start of the detour. If you don't see it, just ask and you'll be directed. Interestingly, as I discovered in April, this detour is quite well marked heading west. Go figger!

Have a great trip.

There is a short deviation at Masisi (27km from Pafuri gate) around the washed away bridge.
It is well worn so easy to follow although signposting is " irregular". I have done it in darkness very early morning, and also with a caravan. Also went with 4x4 into the river bed crossing below the bridge.
If you are coming from Mapungubwe on the R527 Pontdrif road about 11 km before Messina there is a "German Farm Butchery" on the south side in at the same gate as Limpopo Safaris for about 500meter. They have a website but I recommend them. Do yourself a favour and buy some game biltong and dry wors at bargain price. Game meat etc. too - I fill my deep freeze in caravan and home with it all.

Thanks Arks and Shidzidzii! We hadn't thought about the Masisi road yet - thanks for the headsup. Valuable info especially the name of the butchery :) This is such a valuable forum!
