Addo - Some question

Unread post by dahanis » Sun Aug 14, 2016 12:55 am

this is my first time here (:

We (4 pax) will arrive to South Africa in the end of January 2017
we will land in Port elizabeth on 17:25 and we will rent a car for our trip.
I belive that we will not arrived to Addo main camp before 20:00.

1. if I will book accommodation in advance in the main camp I will be able to get in around 20:00 or I need to find accommodation out of the park and get in just day after?
2. The Enterance fee are for 24 hours?

in the first day we want to do full day game drive with our car (maybe to take a guide for 2 hours)
and do the Sunset orgenized game drive.
3. Do I need to booked it in advanced or just when Im in the park?

4. If we will rent the forest cabine/cottages - its far from the water hole?
one of the reason that we want to sleep in the park and not out of the park is the water hole,
its worth it?

thank you very much (sorry about my English...its not my mother tongue

Hi Dahanis,

If you book in at the Main Camp, they usually allow people to get in quite a bit later, but you can not come in from the south at Matyholweni. You will have to do the longer trip around to Main Camp entrance. I strongly advise that you rather go via Paterson than via the Markman turnoff from the N2. It is further, but safer in the dark...

You usually don't need to book sunset drives in advance, especially if it is NOT in the school holidays (they end by 11 January).

The forest huts are a few hundred meters from the waterhole... it is a very pleasant walk and you can sit there for a while (there is also a hide just below the viewpoint where you get really close to the waterhole). Look out for black rhinos at night at the waterhole...

Another good reason to sleep IN the park is that in summer you get to go on morning drives 1 hour earlier than people who sleep outside... that is the perfect time for hyenas, jackals and lions to be more visible...

Have a wonderful trip.

God bless,

Dear Friedrich ,

Thank you for your great answer.
We decided to stay in PE for the first night and early in the morning enter from Mathyolweni Gate and drive south inside the park till the main camp for the second night.

Thank you again for your help
