Re: Hoerikwaggo Trails camp

Unread post by Lesego » Tue Jul 03, 2012 9:07 am

The Hoerikwaggo Tented Camps fall part of the Hoerikwaggo Trail (a 5 day hike from Cape Point to Table Mountain). The tented camps are dotted along the route as overnight accommodation for those doing the hike, and also just using the camps as separate accommodation.

It is not necessary to book to do the hike, only the accommodation need be booked. Orange Kloof tented camp falls in a restricted area of the park and is therefore only open to those who have booked the accommodation. Booking Orangekloof Tented Camp also acts as one’s permit to hike in this restricted area of the park. If not staying over at Orangekloof, a permit is required to hike this section.

So I assume these camps are accessible by car, at least this is what Sanparks website says now.

I'm trying to choose in which camp to stay - Orange Kloof, Silvermine or Slangkop. Anyone stayed in these camps? What is the main difference between them? According to the pictures they are all beautiful, especially the first two.

Thank you.

Approx time guidlines for the Hoerikwaggo Trail Daily?

Unread post by liindseyyves » Sun Apr 27, 2014 3:40 pm

Hi my husband and I are very fit but haven't hiked in awhile and are doing the Trail, and yes I know we will be sore as nothing compares to just getting out there. Can anyone advise us on approximate guidelines for the length of hiking and terrain each day so that we are able to take in the views and literally be able to walk the next day..Tks

Can anyone please guide on when the Hoerikwaggo trails will be operational again after the fires, and when trail bookings can commence?

Info received from CapePR (thank you Tarcia :gflower: ) :

All Hoerikwaggo Trails (HK) accommodation including the tented camps is still open and available for bookings except the Silvermine tented camp which has not been rebuilt post the 2015 fires.
The accommodation can be booked irrespective of whether you are hiking or not and is now sold as standard communal parks board accommodation.
Unfortunately parts of the HK trail are still closed as a result of the fires in October 2015 i.e Redhill Area.
Those people who wish to hike and use the HK accommodation are advised to employ the services of an outsourced guide who can work out a route for them suited to their hiking fitness and ability.
