Hoodia in flower in Tankwa

Unread postby WestCoaster » Sun Nov 30, 2008 4:56 pm

Hi folks.

Back after a long sojourn in the wilderness without internet access. Now have ADSL at home, so consider me back.

Was in Tankwa NP two weeks ago to hand over their first 1000 new bird lists created and donated by the West Coast HRs and saw this Hoodia in flower on the road to Varsfontein. The bloom smells nearly as bad as the Stapelia star flower, and looks similar.

Thought I would share these two shots with you. The second one is a close up including two unopened flowers (buds) on the right.

WestCoster - wonderful to see you back, and looking forward to hearing much more from you

The flowers look like they must feel very hard and waxy :?

 Sorry - I didn't touch them! Must be my WCNP upbringing! They didn't seem hard and waxy, in fact some that had withered looked quite softish. I'll find out for you and advise. LetsieC can surely tell us...

Yes, it's good to be back - I'm happy too. :D

Yeah nice to have you back WC, and with unusual stuff
