Namaqua Flowers 2017

Unread post by TruyensCA » Sun Aug 13, 2017 11:03 pm

Hi

A group of us will be touring the Northern Cape in search of the flowers and were wondering, given the drought, how things were progressing? Do we have any blooming yet?

Thanks
Cindy

Good morning Cindy,

First of all, welcome to the SANParks Forums!

I have seen on social media that the flowers are a bit late and the first signs of flowers have appeared at the Namaqualand National Park but apparently there is no big display of flowers yet. Lets keep our fingers crossed :)

At the moment we are staying at Skilpad in the Namaqua National Park. Due to the lack pf rain, there are no flowers to be seen.

Going to West Coast National Park on Tuesday where the flowers are supposed to be good.

I've seen a friend's photos of the flowers in Postberg & WCNP taken today and they look spectacular!

Spent most of yesterday (Wednesday) driving through Postberg. The floral display there is simply stunning. Fields filled with Gousblom and Rëenblommetjie. Patches of Veld Cineraria and Magriet. Jesscan will post some pics when we get to Cape Town and have a decent internet connection. Roadside flowers in WCNP are sadly lacking. Off to Postberg now for some more beauty.

I am at last back in Internet country. :D

Andy M and I had 2 full days in the WCNP and spent most of those days in the Postberg section of the park.

The floral display was something to behold.

A spectacle of note.

The vast fields were carpeted in white Reenblommetjies, orange Gousblomme and yellow Magriet.

Along the roadsides we had a vast variety of other flowers. (I still have to ID all these flowers).

As promised by Andy (on my behalf) here are just some of the pics of the dazzling beauty that we were so privileged to see.
