Union's End picnic spot, 7 November 2012:

I decided to skip my toilet break when I saw the queue.

While the male was queuing, the female enjoyed a nap in a shady spot.

Here is another shot of the lion that took a gemsbok about 50 meters from the gate into TR. That same evening we went out on the game drive and the guide was a little nervous about getting out to open the gate as there were two cats on the kill. We shined our lights on the cats and he quickly opened the gate and got back in.

By the way this shot was taken shortly after the kill, as you can see she is dragging it under a tree. The photo was taken on March 17 at about 3:42 in the afternoon. (if the info in my camera is correct)

A thank you to Chickadee for assisting me in learning how to add photos.

Since I retired we've now made 8 trips to Africa photographing the various wildlife. One of our goals has been to photograph a Caracal. Well driving toward Nossob from TR we intended to get some photos of the lions on the gemsbok but no one was on the carcass so we continued on. About 10K down the road my wife (Sherry) yells caracal I thought she was kidding as I had already passed it. we stopped as it caught up to us and the sun came out and we probably got the best Caracal photos that we will ever get. Managed to take about 150 some in superb light.

An interesting aside, is that the cat is in South Africa and we're in Botswana. Where else could you do that?

Hi all,

Re: Union's End picnic spot.

When we visited in September 2012 we were fortunate (unfortunate?) enough to not find the lions, but there were some fresh tracks around the toilets.

We left from Grootkolk that morning and didn't encounter another vehicle before we reached the picnic spot. There was some debate about whether to use it or not. In the (Union's? -- sorry) end after driving around the area a few times and making REALLY sure it was safe we decided to risk it -- my SO was 5 months pregnant at the time...

Of course I had to get out first "just to be 100% certain"

Look at the size of the print next to her's!

(first time posting pictures -- hope it comes out Ok)

Not much activity lately, probably due to the holiday season, BUT please all you wonderful “mites” out there, if you are NOT in KTP now and you have time on hand, look for...... and find those exclusive waterhole, toilets and predator photo's!

These were taken at 13e Boorgat!
