Dinokeng Treetop chalet destroyed by a fire

Unread post by Lesego » Fri Dec 09, 2016 4:02 pm

A brand new tourism facility in Mokala National Park was destroyed by a fire on Wednesday.

The blaze broke out at the Dinokeng Treetop chalet, situated about 8 kilometers from Mosu Lodge reception, around 2pm. The facility and the beautiful camel thorn tree, in which it was nestled, burnt to the ground. Fortunately the rest of the park's facilities had not been affected by the fire because the park staff immediately responded to assist in bringing the fire under control. This fire in Mokala National Park comes less than two weeks after the Tsitsikamma fires in which the restaurant and Storms River rest camp shop was completely burnt down.

Park Manager, Deon Joubert, said it was a very sad day for Mokala because the treehouse was a real gem, carefully constructed and tastefully decorated. It would have been a major draw card and was due to be listed on the central reservation system in January 2017, he added.

Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded and an investigation will be conducted to establish the exact cause of the fire.

The Kameeldoring Treetop chalet is still available for bookings and a similar facility will be constructed in 2017.

That is toooooo sad. :( :( It looked like it was going to be a fabulous retreat, just like its companion, Kameldoring Tree house.
All that hard work gone up in smoke.

What a loss, it looked like a really nice facility and would have been a great addition to the Mokala facilities.

   Oh no. What a loss! All that hard work gone. But it is good that the fire was brought under control and didn't spread to the rest of the park and other houses.

Very sad indeed! Just glad there was no injuries or loss of lives! :(
