Good morning FTd, and welcome to this forum....

I personally LOVE Mabuasehube but it will depend on your taste for the wilderness areas. Suggest you Google Botswana National Parks and look up info on that site.

For a visit there you must be pretty well self-sufficient - own fuel, own firewood etc. Definitely 4x4 because of deep sand in places. All camp sites have their own long drops and facilities for hanging your shower in a shelter, some have water laid on.

Don't know how much research you've done, but one could write a book on Mabua. Same animals but much nicer vegetation than further west, magnificent Pan Country. MY favourite pans are Bosobogolo in the south, and Khiding in the centre. Lots of options for further travel - KTFP in the west, Kang and Bots to the east, exit at Tsabong to the south etc.

You must book through Central Bookings, DWNP, in Gaberones : Tel 00267 3180774, Fx ..775. Usually very helpful.

Hope this is introductorily helpful, I'm sure other forumites are keen to fill in the many gaps!

hi Jembo

Love the wilderness....

Thank you for your reply and those contact details.

Yes, heavy busy with "research" currently.
Do have a 4x4 and well versed when it comes to sand, only the
self-sufficiency that will be tested !!!

Here is a link to what you can expect on Botswana side. We did our first Botswana side camping in Dec 2013 and in a way enjoyed it, but also preferred the facilities at camps like Nossob.

I have never ventured out to Mabua before, but from Travel Tales it really looks great to try out. Our problem is that we do not have a roof-top tent and tow a heavy off-road trailer. The trailer is great to have all your goodies with you, but you can get stuck in sandy stretches easier than without towing.

I thought of renting a 4x4 with rooftop tent, but it might be cheaper to buy the tent instead or getting another 4x4. :hmz: SO again don't mind the dome tent, but for me its a no go. :naughty:

Enjoy the research and let us know what you have decided.
Jan 2018: Next trip to KNP - Tamboti, Talamati, Maroela and Satara
