Nossob construction

Unread post by pamelajane » Sat Jul 02, 2016 11:45 am

Has anyone been to Nossob recently and can advise me on the noise, dust, etc from the construction work? Also where are the workers being accommodated? I have heard from someone that they spent one night in a chalet and cancelled the rest of their nights as they reported that the noise, dust, vehicles were really bad. We have booked four nights in September and are wondering just how bad it is in camp and at what time the workers clock in and out?? Help please

This is from Dave Devlin, messaged to me via Facebook - thank you for the help Dave!

I have just been there and was in 10c which is right next to were the new units are being built , I never noticed any bad dust or experienced any excessive noise and the noise was during the day when you would normally be out .

.... just mention that the roads are really bad 8-12cm corrugation.

Thx :)
We have 10C so I was a bit worried about the construction works.
Last year we were in Urikaruus when they built the new unit and there was a lot of noise from the generator :( (we were in the unit next to the new one ).
Regards, Linda

The unit you got is the closest and can't think that it will be very quiet around there. When are you going? The units reached roof level now and still a few months of work can be expected.

NOSSOB new chalets early August 2016 (viewed from side of the hide walkway) -- according to the guys at reception, completion should be Jan/Feb 2017 :hmz:
- obviously the 50km/hr speed limit sign will be removed

Cheers, Ian

JaniceE - I'm not a camper but, early August, from the Nossob River road there was no visible 'construction-clearing' of the new camping site, possibly just the construction of the new camping ablution block - perhaps some of the camping mites could give an update. Edit latest Google Maps site shows possible new camp site 'work' and respective new surrounding camp fence - link: https://www.google.co.za/maps/place/Nos ... 20.5966384

- are these the site plans you're looking for?
- 10 new river front units are stated, however someone mentioned a greater number :hmz:
- proposed realignment of the access road - at present the southern entrance/exit is on the river front to the south of the hide, the northern entrance/exit road is between #9A+9C chalets and the laundry - no idea if the proposed 'half-moon' western-side access road will actually be completed.

Hope this helps - Ian
