On the normal routes in Kgalagadi will you be able to use/tow your off road caravan.

Yes... .we toured with our Scout "gravelroader" some years ago and had absolutely no problems. Just remember to lower your tyre pressure - a lot! - on the car and the 'van

Normally not a problem, but make sure your caravan is in good condition and you do have spares to replace. What caravan do you have? We had two problems with ours on separate holidays. The one was a power shortage on the battery due to the batteries moving too much. Luckily the last night, but if we did not spot it could have caused a fire.

The other problem was on the spring coil that came loose due to the strap breaking. We only saw it at the camp site as you will not know that some-thing is wrong while driving on very corrugated road.

Maybe just bad luck, but always good that everything is packed tightly and trailer / caravan in good condition.

Son Godin has given you some good advice about carrying spares - Murphy's Law says that if you have spares with you they will not be needed :) Seriously though, we have had no trouble in towing an off-roader in Kgalagadi - just take it easy, don't rush over the corrugations and let the tyres down!
Enjoy your trip!

We tow an Xplorer offroad caravan and had been to the KTP twice the last 3 years. No problems experienced other than a cupboard door which kept opening. Duck taped it shut as temporary measure. Deflate tyres to 1.2 bar (depend on the kind of tyres on your van) and pack everything tight.

We are leaving for the KTP this saturday for a 7 nights. Again towing the Xplorer.

We will be visiting KTP in December, towing our Jurgens Oryx to TR, Mata Mata and Nossob. Hopefully it will stand up to the road conditions and the dust!

Hi Neville

Conditions of the roads varies from day to day. The worst section we encountered last week is the road north of Kamqua to Mata Mata. We only lost one screw in our Xplorer which I replaced with a longer one. Your Oryx will handle the roads just fine. Although they (KTP) recommend caravan tyre pressure of 2 bar I dropped mine to 1.2 for the sand roads and 1.5 for the harder upper dune road. (Inflate and deflate at the picnic spots).

Enjoy your trip
