Edited: carolz's leopard is the Auchterlonie Male - leopard no. 3.11(Historical leopards) in the ID Guide.

Hi carolz! A lovely spot!
I must admit, I am stumped....for now! :hmz: Going dotty comparing pix and spot patterns. It does not seem to be Jannie, nor the male leopard we saw near Auchterlonie! Perhaps you have discovered a new leopard?(as well as a bird? ) I will let you know if I find something. Spot patterns can look very different if pix are taken from slightly different angles. :wall:

What I have discovered - think that Jaraheckes' male leopard at Houmoed on page 5 -is the same as my Auchterlonie leopard above.(Houmoed)

Here is the Twee Rivieren mother near TR in Jan 2010 (she has been named Maja by Pikasso)

Image

And an un-identified male near Auchterlonie Jan 2010 - I zoomed in to see if it was Jannie, but it does not match.

Hi Pika, here are the comparison pics I used (mine in Jan 2010 and Peterpiper in 2006)

I agree she seems a bit heavy, but she is lactating, so is this maybe the reason?

It looks like a match to me ?

Hello :D
A bit embarrassing posting these pics after seeing the quality of peterbees and Peterpipers :redface:Zoomed and cropped drastically to get a better view of the spots. Am I correct that this is Maja?
We saw her now at the beginning of March with her 2 cubs

Peter, no doubt about it, this is definitely Maja... she looked very young in 2006 :D !
I assume she was born in 2005, maybe 2004? Anybody knows?

Dreamer, Maja doesn't have such deep notches in her right ear... but this is very interesting! Another Mom with 2 cubs  ! Where did you take these pics?

Dreamer, I think this is Maja, she does have a torn right ear, and the markings are the same. She has two cubs, which I did not see. If you saw her in the TR area, then its definite.

Image

Nothing to be embarassed about, Dreamer  , you have a superb pic of Maja  . Now we wait for the photos of the two cubs please please

@Pikasso - we saw her in April 2006 for the first time(at the very same location where Dreamer saw her now). She was young. My guess is that she was born in 2004!

Edited - peterbee's last pic on page 7 - Rooibrak, leopard no. 1.15 in the ID Guide(04042014).

@peterbee - could your unidentified male at Auchterlonie be the same as the male we saw at Auchterlonie in Dec 2008(page 7)? Jaraheckes also saw this male at the beginning of the 2008 year at Houmoed - was young! If it is the same leopard as we saw, he now seems to like the Auchterlonie area!

I've compiled a combination of leopard images from KTP here. The leopard and cub in this gallery are Maja and her 2008 cub.

Dreamer and Peter, you are right, it's well Maja too on Dreamer's pic... the notches confused me, but the dots speak :D !
Weird how the notches seem so deeper on Dreamer's pic :hmz: !

Madach, great pics, and it remind us that nobody has heard of Kruiper -aka Majabe-(Maja's 2008 cub) for a long time :| ...

Mum and one of her cubs. The other was the little rebel who made me panic. She happily ran across the road and over the dune and stayed away right till I left before leaving for gate closing time.
You can imagine how happy I was the next day when we passed and  , both cubs were there :D
When were her cubs born, I have been trying to work out how old they must be now.

Image

For those interested, this is THE tree :D I would guess about 20m from the road and around 14 km's from TR

@Dreamer -Lovely pic!  That tree will always be special to us - have always checked that tree thoroughly since 2006! :D

As for the age of the cubs - I agree with o-dog - 3 -4 months. I guess the cubs would have been born in November 2009, going on the first post of the new cubs - on the thread 'Update: TR leopard and two cubs'.

Hope this little family goes from strength to strength!

@o-dog - 4 leopards together! Eish! What a sighting!
