Thanks for the heads up Scouter.

Do they allow you to bring meat back across the border?

Yes they do !! No questions asked ... which is totally bizarre as far as Im concerned but everyone does it - the shop was really busy when we were there - at least 4 different lot of folk and all of them buying meat and biltong ... we did too and nobody batted an eye ... and its REALLY good springbok too

LMHO, there are strict rules, and there are 'rural' border posts.

Hello !

We'll enter KTP at Mata-Mata from Namibia, and we'll go out at Twee-Rivieren (staying 3 nights in KTP):
- No problem of visa or else ??
- Can we bring wood from Namibia or not? what about charcoal or compressed bushblock?
- Can you give me opening hours at Mata-Mata border post?

Thank you for your help !

What time of the year? The hours od the gate depends on the month of the year.

Wood yes, but not allowed to take it to South Africa. But charcoal is no problem.

Only pasport at Mata Mata and Twee Rivieren.

Enjoy!

We are planning a trip to the KTP

this is our plan
2 nights TR
3 nights Namibia
1 night polentswa
-> do I have to go to TR for checking in ?

and after Polentswa we spend different nights in differt camps like MM / Nossob / garagab....
leave again for a few days to namibia ( because the park is full)
and come back for 2 days MM

same question -> do I go from NM to TR to check in ? and back again to MM for 2 nights ?

Namibia/Mata Mata Border Post

Unread post by pcrj » Mon Apr 21, 2014 11:26 am

Hi travellers, we will be crossing from Namibia to Mata Mata at an unknown date. Does any body out there know if we can book camp accommodation at the Mata Mata border post?

Cheers! :D

It depends what time of year it is . In school holidays it is not worth taking the risk. As far as I am aware they will not let you through the border unless you have 2 nights accomodation in the park

pcrj,
As klotzof says they will not let you through the border unless you have two nights booked in one of the camps. Its a bit a gamble to pitch up and hope there is something available. Having said that if you are out side of the school holidays (both Namibia and SA) then you should find a campsite in at least Twee Rivieren or Mata Mata.
Remember if you are going to camp at TR then you need to arrive early enough at Mata Mata to allow time to drive to TR. (dont forget the 1 hour time difference between Nam and SA)

Patries,

You did not mentioned anything about that you will be traveling with minor children. If you do the border crossing regulations changed and you need an unabridge birth certificate of your children plus passports. It can easily take 8 weeks for the certifcates if you were not issued with unabridge birth certificate.
