Re: About water reserves in the KTP

You are right, Batsman, there is a sign at the end of the dune road, nossob river side, where they say that the depth to get to the water is from something like more than 30 meters down to 108 at max, if I remember correctly.
Regarding the swimming pool, I think they are very seldom used, so maybe Sanoarks could close them. But maybe there is enough water for them... that is the real question, in fact!

KTP Water: Who drinks it, who doesn't?

Unread postby annapangolin » Fri Oct 23, 2009 6:15 pm

Okay, just had a trial pack of the car to see if everything will fit for KTP on Sunday. No surprise here, but it doesn't. I've only packed some of my things and our cooking things and food, and already it's FULL. That's without two other people and all their luggage.

Our plans to bring 8x 5 litre bottles of water from home is not going to happen.

I KNOW Nossob water is nasty, but can you safely drink it? I also know that the water at the Auob picnic spots is fine, but i'll be in Nossob a week before I get down there.

I know this has been debated before, but i'm down to the last minute and i'd like to know if you drink the KTP water. I had a talk with my boss at work about it and she's a KTP regular who always drinks the water there. I'm still not convinced, but bringing water just isn't an option anymore.

Of course i'll buy the odd overpriced shop water every now and then just to have something cold, but I don't want to have to do it everyday...

Do you drink the water? Yes? No? Why?

Thanks

Hi there

I have always drunk the water in KTP without a problem, but my husband cant - he and a friend of ours got really very ill from the water - it all depends on your constitution. I would'nt take a chance.

Enjoy your holiday

The only water that is fairly safe to drink is at TR and Urikuruus. If I was you I would definitely be stopping in Upington Moose and buying a couple of 5 litre waters. Sadly the water that is for sale in the Park is a prohibitive price!

Sandals: I'd hope i'd be one of the 'okay' people. Haven't been sick in more than 20 years (and i'm only 25). I think i'll try mixing it with bottled water for a while, maybe...

Penny: We have all the 5 litre bottles of water, we just have no room for them We're going for two weeks as well, so we'd run out anyway. Grrrrr @ small car

Moose....maybe you could boil the water you plan on using for cooking....
that would kill possible parasites and helps take bad tastes away...(so much)
Chilling it also helps take away a sulphur taste...if that is the only issue.
Appreciate what you have before it becomes what you had.

We have always drunk the Nossob water (mostly in tea or coffee form) with no problems at all. It is a far more natural water than 80% of the bottled waters you can buy - it just might not taste that familiar or insipidly neutral.

I have yet to come across borehole water that is inherently bad for you
although not all are potable.

YUCKKK !!! Moose I think the water is disgusting in KTP and I LOVE water -- I drink about 2 litres a day by choice at home ....think you are going to have to buy when you there when we were there Dec last year they RAN OUT of bottled water and I had to drink Sprite instead !!! But you are not there in high season so I dont think you will have that problem !

CC: We'll be using KTP water for all of our cooking anyway. Hope it goes okay...

Billyf: Thanks for the advice- you're telling me what I want to hear and I like that I will definitely TRY drinking the water. If it goes well, i'll keep doing it.

Tiggercat: (cute name!) I also drink 2 litres a day by choice. I pretty much only drink water. I can't beleive they ran out of water! Scary.

Jembo: Trailer would have been a very, very good idea. I'm not smart enough to come up with things like that

sandals: Thank you!

My water worries have been decreased significantly today, when a very kind forumite (name beginning with 'P' @nd ending in 'M'), who will no doubt be driving a much more suitable vehicle than mine, offered to bring us some nice Cape Town water for our second week in the park. Thank you so much!

P@m

Moose...we used to live in a house that had smelly water...had it tested..turned out it is very good for you (lots of minerals) just smelled like bad eggs.

If we drew a pitcher full before going to bed....and put it in the fridge..it smelled MUCH better the next morning.

Have tons of fun!!!

Bought some water purification tablets today. Do they actually do anything? I'll use them on the Nossob water...
