Making that first post - how to post

If the pictures are too small to see detail clearly; click on the picture to open it to full size, then use the 'back button' on your browser, found top left of page, next to the url bar, to go back to the topic.

1. The 'Post Reply button' can be found at the top of the topic (screen left), just under the heading:

or

Just below the topic (screen left):

2. Click 'Post Reply' to open the 'posting window' - this is where you type your post, and can add smilies by clicking on a smiley (screen right); and add photos (more on the latter in another tut):

3. Once you are ready to post, just under the 'posting window' are three 'buttons' - 'Submit' - to post directly; 'Preview' - to view what your post looks like, before you 'Submit'; or 'Save draft' - to come back and post up later.

4. Voila! Your first post is up!

Bold, italics and underlining text in a post

(To select text, right click on your mouse, and then 'wipe' over the text you wish to select. You can see if the area has been selected as it will become highlighted.)

1. Just above the posting window are the 'buttons' to add BBCode to your text. Type your text, select the part you wish to make bold, in italics, or underlined and then click on the specific 'button'.

B = bold

i = italics

u = underline

2. If the code does not work for your post - ensure that 'Disable BBCode' is not ticked in the 'Options' below the posting window.

How to quote a post - option 1

1. Top right of the post you wish to quote, is the 'quote button' - (pic #1). Selecting this will open a 'reply post' with all the content of the post you are quoting, between quote tags - (pic #2).

2. You can either edit some of the quoted content (deleting irrelevant parts), but leave the tags as they are; or keep all content, then adding your comments and submit.

How to quote a post/text - option 2

1. Type/paste the text that you wish to quote into a 'new' post. Select the text that you wish to have in the quote, and then select the 'Quote button' above the posting window. This will add the quote tags to your text.

Making a 'neat' link

Unread post by DinkyBird » Tue May 31, 2016 9:34 pm

Making a 'neat' link

If the pictures are too small to see detail clearly; click on the picture to open it to full size, then use the 'back button' on your browser, found top left of page, next to the url bar, to go back to the topic.

1. Select and copy the URL you wish to link to in your post. This is done by opening the page you wish to link to in your browser, and selecting (usually just a right click in the url bar will select the whole URL) the URL. Right click and 'copy'.

neatlink.JPG

2. In your post do the following to add the neat link. (three separate steps are purely to illustrate what is needed to make the one link) :
1 - click on the 'URL button' above the posting window to add the URL tags to your post
2 - put your cursor between the two ][ and paste the URL link you copied
3a - delete the first ] and replace with a =
3b - add the ] just after the link text you pasted between the two ][
3c - type in the name of your 'neat link'

3. And voila!

neatlink2.JPG

Extra tip!

If you click on the 'page icon' on the post, before copying the URL, it will open the URL for that specific post, so you can link directly to a post.

Another explanation How to make a neat link:

Jazil wrote:Right click with mouse on topic you want to link too and then select "Copy Link Location"

Then go to the post where you are putting the link and right click again and select "Paste" - the following will appear

Code: Select all

http://www.sanparks.org/forums/viewtopic.php?style=2&f=27&t=62401

Then just go to the beginning of that line ie the http and before that type in
[url=and then at the end of that long number, in this case the 62401 just type in a]then type in the name of the report, in this case "Counting the days" followed by[/url]

It will look like this

Code: Select all

[url=http://www.sanparks.org/forums/viewtopic.php?style=2&f=27&t=62401]Counting the Days[/url]
before you post it.

It will look like this Counting the Days on your page.

Posting a photo as an Attachment

If the pictures are too small to see detail clearly; click on the picture to open it to full size, then use the 'back button' on your browser, found top left of page, next to the url bar, to go back to the topic. This is how one can view all photos posted as attachments as well.

1. Below the 'Post reply' window you type you post, is a tab "Attachments" - click on 'Add files'

attach1.JPG

2. Select your photo file from where it is saved on your computer/mobile device - you can select a number of files at a time

attach2.JPG

3. The file will load and then you select the "place inline' option (this is the tidy option)

attach3.JPG

4. The code will show like this in your post

attach4.JPG

5. Submit

attach5.JPG

You can also drag and drop into your post by selecting the file/pic you wish to add to your post, and dragging it into the posting window for step 2.
