Hear the call of the Bird and Mammal from a book ???????

Unread post by isinkwe » Sat Jan 16, 2016 1:18 pm

I discovered a book that that quite fascinated me. Yes , I am technology challenged and was completely blown away by this book :D I thought some of you out there might be interested in hearing about , it would be rather rude and selfish of me to not tell you all about it.

The Book is

Image

and it comes with a " Call Finder"

Image

What you do is touch the "Call Finder' onto the photograph of the bird and it plays the call of the bird
It has just over 720 species of birds found in South Africa, they have about 90 % of the calls , as they get those calls they let their customers know and you simply download the upgraded or added sounds from the internet directly onto your "Call Finder" (and it's free- for now anyway)

They have also recently started with a Mammal book which uses the same "Call Finder " ( no need to buy 2 " Call Finder's" )

Image

They sell these books directly to the public from their premises in Pretoria. That's cool, but what about my forum friends from all over South Africa and the rest of the world I asked ? ?
'No problem " they also sell online to local and overseas customers
If anyone might be interested in this book or books , please feel free to drop me a PM and I will forward their contact details to you. :D

My SO (morecat ) has taken possession of the copy I bought and she told me to go and buy my own    :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:
I hate it when the voices in my head go silent.......I never know what they are planning.

I got the Sappi Birds of South Africa book as a birthday gift last year. 8) We ordered the Callfinder and had it sent to a friend in Stellenbosch via courier, we collected it from him over fish and chips in the Simonstown harbour. Just beware that most bookshops sell the book and Callfinder separately and happily call it a Special. That it isn't since you still need to order the Callfinder, which isn't sold loose in any shop, online.

Well worth the effort though. A very handy gadget which we often used during our trip.

You are quite right Guinea Pig  , I myself also almost got caught out , that's why I went directly to the source of the book and call finder.

The complete package I got directly from the publicist (I was referred there buy a large chain of Bookshops) was this

Image

The dimensions of the full package
255 x 275 x 45 millimetres ( weight -1 KG) , and for those out there that are slowly inching your way to the metric system Image
10.03937 x 10.82771 x 1.7716535 inches (weight - 2,2o462 pounds)

Does the mammal book call finder also has the call of the bushbabies and perhaps...'morecats'....   ...just could not resist asking.

Thank you for bring this one to our attention.

Kaapsedraai , while at the shop I was trying to work out how I was going to sell/bribe this idea to morecat , ( I did not tell morecat I was going to look at these books, ) I asked for the sound of the meercat as an example and also the sound of isinkwe :D I bought the package then and there . :D :D and strangely enough when I introduced the books to morecat , the first sound she went for to test was the meercat and then isinkwe
Apparently an isinkwe is more noisy than a morecat ( the book and call finder confirm this) So I loose on a winning streak :D

Funny you should ask that question umtali , While at the book shop , I did wonder and even asked the same question.
They do know about I Image and I Image and according to the decision makers/ publishers/ printers/ people in the know/ experts/scientists/ biologists/ botanists/ doctors /vets/ and all those on the planet that are still breathing.
We are getting our own book

I Image and I Image are quite unique and we have only 1 sound (Image Bring a cold beer and start the braai ). Better get in quick , send your pm quickly to get your copy before both of them are sold out Image

We also have this book, and fortunately received the "Call finder" with it Isinkwe. Technology is absolutely fascinating, and we truly enjoy this book!

When in the park last May and outside the shop at Lower Sabie, I was startled to hear a Woodland Kingfisher calling and on looking around saw them demonstrating the book at a bench outside the shop!
so it is certainly or was anyway available in the park. 8)

Had a look recently but couldn't find it in the park but managed to pick up a copy at the airport on the way home. Had to get them to open the box to make sure the book inside was in English and it was, it came with the Mammal book which is good and I have ordered the bird book on it's own from Amazon.

Liking the Mammal noises and can't wait to get the bird book, excellent bit of kit.

We paid R1 365,00 a few months ago for the bird book Rooies. Unfortunately I don't know what the price of the Mammal book is, but if I understood it correctly, if you have one of the two books with the pen (for the sound), you needn't buy another pen for the other one. You can use the same pen for both.

I also have the bird book, and have found it extremely handy. Except for the Cisticola calls - they don't seem to be to accurate? :hmz: But I have been able to ID many a bird, especially the Warblers with this handy tool. The technology behind it fascinates me.
