Which smell reminds you of Kruger?

Unread post by Rooies » Sun Oct 23, 2016 7:54 pm

I could find no similar thread which deals specifically with the smells of the bush, so here we go.

During my last trip to the greater Kruger area, we only used leadwood for our braai (very sparingly i must add) There is nothing that beats the almost sweet smell of burning leadwood and wherever I go in life, that specific smell will take me back to the pleasant days in the bush.

Nice idea Rooies. For me, when we drive into Kruger there is a scent almost like honey which floats on the air. I don't know what plant it comes from, but it is always there and it underlines the fact that we have really arrived. Then the other one is from a plant up north which fills all the vlei areas around Mopani and elsewhere in the winter months - and as you drive along, the car is filled with it - a glorious herby scent that says you are exactly where you want to be.

a potato bush. (not so sure if that is its real name   :slap: ) but the bush smells like potatoes being baked in the braai fire. :D
You might get me out of the bush, but you won't get the bush out of me, it's deep in my heart

For me it's the smell of the thatch in the camps/picnic sites.

Nartjies and Pecan nuts will always remind me of our visits during winter months. It was standard 'padkos'

Another one for me is Lapsang Souchong, my favourite tea. I cant get it here, so every now and then someone from overseas will bring me a pack and I always save it for Kruger. Has a lovely sort of smokey scent.

The smell of the hot sun on the thatch roofs just does it for me - it is the Kruger Nationsl Park to me
