The way I came by my name (RL nickname) is a little odd, but that's what you get when you've got the type of maniac friends I have.

My real name is Patrick, and I play the bagpipes for the SA Irish Pipes and Drums. With the Gaelic connotations that come from being involved in such an activity, in short order they were calling me Padraig, the Gaelic version of my name.

At some point, some genius decided that nicknames denoting different foods was in order. The Gaelic pronunciation of ny name is "Porrig", and therefore Porridge followed shortly after. As I'm also an officer in this regiment (Reserve Force. I do have a real job too), some also call me Luitenant Pap.

So there you have it :)

I didn´t think too much to choose my alias, that´s simply one of my favourite activities: hiking + the year we visit KNP.
Spotting animals is another one, photography, landscapes...
We usually mix them together

My name is not Piet at all, but my surname is Pieterse.

I was the youngest of 4 boys growing up and school holiday time the Pieterse house was the place to be, with all the brothers friends coming to our place.

My eldest brother had a very weird friend that would pitch up at the weirdest times and sometimes our entire household would be asleep while this guy watches action movies.

He was quite a character (and an action freak) and his name was Pieter and we later started to call him Pietskiet.

Seeing that I am a James Bond fanatic :sniper: and with Pieterse as my surname I liked the sound of PietSkiet and started to use this as my alias.

Well my Alias comes with me from primary school, my surname is Lombard, and the one teacher who was the coach to the athletics team, the rugby team and cricket team always crapped on me by saying "jis Lommies maar jy is *&^". So the name Lommies stuck, with the school kids chanting, screaming etc go Lommies. 20 years later and its still the name.
In the Kruger I feel at home, thats why my real home is only 30 min away from the Kruger

Porridge, a wonderful twist on how your alias came to be. One of those that few code-breakers might ever succeed in understanding. Would love to hear those bagpipes one day. BTW, I always imagined you tucking into a hasty pudding sweetened with honey and swimming in butter. :hmz:

PietSkiet, also one of those riddles that take some explanation. When I heard your name, I thought you liked to shoot at Piets.

LQ, I wondered if your alias was as a result of you thinking of yourself as the tenacious, decisive head of your family; which most likely is still true, yes?

Go Lommies!  Wonderful story. :D

Hiker and Cape of Storms, as straightforward as my own alias, but entirely descriptive of where your passions lie.

Heksie, we're waiting to find out why you think of yourself as a little witch.

Interesting to read up on all the names. :D
Great topic. One tends to form one's own idea and then surprised with the real explanation. :hmz:

I guess my name indicates firstly, where I am from 'Cape Town' and then secondly, we often take visitors/friends/family on some drives in and around Cape Town - I got special routes for certain times of the year and a well planned routes according to the likes of our visitors - Winelands day, Cheese & Wine trip, West Coast trip, Scenic trips around the mountain...so 'Take a drive around Cape Town' = Kaapsedraai. :D

Must add - I am not a tour operator....so not advertising

Magic picture, Kaapsedraai.  My idea of your alias was that you enjoyed hareing it around Chapman's Peak on a bike; crazy, as you say, how we conjure up images based on a grouping of words. :D

I always wondered about your alias Stampie :D

My forum name is pretty straight forward as well. My name is Jeanni and the first letter of my surname is the letter "R" = JeanniR
