Thought I would show you some of my patients I have looked after already

Image Larger view

This mare came in for colic surgery (had a twist of the small intestines) and she was placed on fluids, a belly bandage is put on to keep incision clean and support stitches and she is muzzled to prevent her from eating. She has made a full recovery.

Image Larger view

This poor little baby was born with an infection and could not stand up for five days which required us standing him every two hours. He was placed on fluids, intravenous food, oxygen and was feed via a stomach tube. After five days he started standing on his own and has now made a full recovery.

This is the little kangaroo I have baby sat for a friend. Her mother was killed and she has been rescued. She is delightful and has become part of the family. Her name is Joe.

Hi there.....

Thought I'll add our doggies :)
Goes from bravest to brave.

This one's name is Joppie (didn't chosse the name, we got it). The bravest dog I ever seen, maybe more suicidal  Don't put em under the BIG RAT topic though..... (Think its a miniature pincher)
Image

Then the 2 chow-chows. This one's name is Kazan, my 'lion'. He's my favorite and is an awesome dog!
Image

Lastly is Chowy, the female who had over 32 puppies already, really a good mother. Fast as a F1 car...

This is for your father/boss    what a kind man. Those cats look really well fed.

Looking at CC's beautifull Maine Coon, reminded me of our lovely "Alley", also a Maine Coon.

Image

Alley was rescued by my daughter. She was on her way to the SPCA.

Alley spent a couple of happy well fed years with us and for a while ruled the house. She would usually sleep at the foot of the bed, distaining too much closeness.

One night, she came a slept cuddled up to my face, most unusual. She seemed to purr all night, most unusual. I woke up at some point and the thought came, "she's saying, thank you and goodbye".

Next morning, Alley had gone for her usual early morning exploration.

Later that morning someone came knocking at my door."There's a dead cat at the side of the road", she said.

I knew, without looking that it was Alley.

I buried her in our front garden and in spring, filled the bed with flowers.

She was with us for such a short time, but during that time she filled our house with her beauty. She was a true queen.

He is the old guy and will be turning 16 in May. Sometimes I believe that he is deaf but on a Monday morning, he can hear the garbage truck when it starts up....in the depot that is! His life ambition? To catch that truck and kill it!! At the moment he's still mobile, has a good appetite and most of the rest but I know there is a very difficult decision waiting on me in the not so distant future..... :( (He passionately hates to be brushed and at his age I really can't see the need to put him through it on a weekly basis....so we only do the most needed maintenance.)

The day came, it was yesterday. He was completely immobile and it was far more difficult watching him suffer.

Sorry about the lost of your dog JenB!

Great dog Oumie, my dog has cataracts in both his eyes and Duchess's recovery gives me some hope. Thanks.

We have a few pets as well:

Firstly our Labrador, Daniël. He is now about 1 year and four months old. We've bought him when he was still a puppy. Unfortunately he has cataracts in both his eyes. The vet at the eye clinic (Onderstepoort) told me he can save his left eye (The blue looking one) but can't do anything with his right eye due to a growth on his lens or pupil. At that time 2 eyes would have cost R14 000 (About $1400) to fix... money we didn't had!
We've almost saved enough money now and should have the left eye done within a month or so! Daniël is almost totally blind now, but he is coping well... blind people do cope and a dog has a great sense of smelling to help!

Here is Daniël:

Image

This is Snurts a Jack Russell. I've adopted him as a pet a few years ago. He was left at a house when the previous tenants, not far from us, moved out and left him behind. The neighbour fed him for 2 months and had enough of it. Snurts is a great dog!!

Image

This is Alphonso our tortoise. My brother in law bought him from a "trader" next to the road a few years ago... he was afraid they are going to eat it! I don't have a permit for Alphonso and we've tried to put him back in the wild without any success. He was a tame tortoise when we've got him and I don't think he will survive in the wild. He enjoys eating lettuce, grass, Daniël and Snurts's poo (The white poo after it had dried in the sun)... I think it's a Calcium thing!! He doesn't eat anything else.

Image

We've got 2 Gold fish as well. My daughter wanted fish and I've thought they are only going to last for a few months.... They have "vasbyt" and are 4 years old now!!

MM I know the feeling well. I have an elderly Beagle, Dougie and he is an escape artist. He is a hound and follows his nose but has no homing instinct. So gets lost. I have had phone calls from the vet saying he has Dougie. Come fetch. Plus I have driven around the neighbourhood in the car searching. Its a dreadful feeling. I keep the gate closed but somehow he just gets out..he will be the end of me.
I am so glad Prince is back safely.
