Nkulu's Batty Blonde goes camping. KNP, Dec. '14

Unread postby Nkulu » Sun Dec 28, 2014 11:36 pm

Well when Mellory and Ernest came to fetch me for the Bush Baptist meet, and I managed to mis-direct them to my home :redface: (oops) the first comment from Ernest was “she’s a blonde, that explains it”
Then when I informed my children that I intended camping at Tsendze on my own I was asked if I was batty? I am apparently supposed to be too old to be adventurous .......... says who :hmz:
So tent came out of ten year storage (still in excellent condition) Gazebo for the heat, and ladies spade to dig trenches if it rained, and everything was packed in crates (waterproof) See I can be organised when required. And a great big thanks to EJ :gflower: with regard to nails and washers instead of those tent pegs which I never could get into the ground ten years ago.
Set off at 3am for Phalaborwa gate and only got slightly lost once, when I rode into Polokwane (Pietersburg) and realised I had missed the turn off. :redface: I blame it on the bad signage – that’s my story and I am sticking to it.
Managed to get to Tsendze stand 5 on Rodger’s day off, so I set up camp all on my own in 35 degree heat.

billyf - thanks, I tried, guess camping is like riding a bicycle, you never forget how

Trrp :k thanks for all the well wishes, if you see signs of rust it is from all the water I had to drink to prevent dehydration - very hot work :redface: :redface: :redface:

PNF, the kids all have "modern" camping gear, but the old family dome has better ventilation, is light, and I can erect it on my own - with lots of effort :D

Norms, easy, sit on ground and thread poles through, wedge end of one pole against the car wheel :) for extra hands, and up she pops :lol:

Kaapsedraai, thank you I was very cosy with all that space to myself, and at night I lit the storm lanterns (filled with citronella oil) I hate those bright lights that hide the beautiful stars

I even survived the Tzendse Xmas decorations that were starting to arrive

Hippotragus, naturally angels can do anything, that's why we are called Angels :D

Inyati, you will be surprised how quickly one learns, and camping is much more fun than chalets :lol:

Hugh, you may try the protein :lol: , I prefer to gingerly remove them back to the bush

Carolg, thanks for joining, the only thing missing was your yummy eats :k

Part of embracing change in life, is knowing that you will be able to adapt. There is a comfort in the familiar, but new things can be better than before, or, the change may even only be temporary.
When faced with change that’s not in your control, adapt, and be on your way.

When you let your mind wander, make sure it's to a beautiful place.

Stampajane, always room for you :gflower: , I really enjoyed the biltong gift box I received for Xmas, but ssssh please don't tell a soul, the Amarula Queen brought back an unopened bottle. It was so verrrrry hot that I did not even have coffee for 5 whole days, and never opened any "liquid" refreshments :redface:
If I start rusting it was from all the water :lol:

Every day in the Park was a delight, and several times daily I was asked "Did you see anything interesting?"
My reply was always "Everything is interesting and I get to see my beloved Park and harmony and peace in Nature"

Maybe this is what led Karen Blixen to say in Out of Africa, "Here I am, where I belong".

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
Joyce Kilmer

’Tis very sweet to look into the fair
And open face of heaven, — to breathe a prayer
Full in the smile of the blue firmament.

Carolg, thanks for the yummies :wink:

Dijo, welcome and thanks for the kind comment, quotes are my trademark :)
although Philip gives me a run for my money :lol:

Trrp I have not forgotten you, how could I when daily I heard Trrrrp sounds :k
You did say that Tzendse might never be the same, but I can behave when necessary :redface: and hope I did no serious damage ........ only got lost in the camp twice :redface: :redface:

Once I took a walk to the ablutions about 9pm and ended up in someone else's camp - Oops :redface:
The children kindly escorted me to the right place and even waited to escort me back :whistle: :whistle:

The second time I went for a stroll around the camp and got hopelessly lost (MM we really need to join forces :lol: ) Eventually I found the gate and managed to get back to my camp :lol:

nothing”…

Welcome Hilda, Trrp and GM, the more the merrier :gflower:

I might get to the Birdies and animals eventually :lol: , but there is so much more to life than just "sightings"

Barryels, for you there is always a seat - welcome aboard

After seeing the Park so very dry in October it was wonderful to see all the brilliant Green,
but I must confess that I still feel "caged" in the Mopani bush

billyf, PNF, leervis, Hippotragus, Inyati and Philip :k , thank you for your kind comments

The joy of writing a trip report is that you get to relive it all :clap:

"Every morning in Africa, an antelope wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion, or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest antelope, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or an antelope - when the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - African Proverb.

If nature were not beautiful, it would not be worth knowing, and if nature were not worth knowing, life would not be worth living

I stopped to take a photo and the comment from the next car was
"Just another waterbuck"

My mental reply was
"Lady if you cannot appreciate the beauty, harmony and peace in front of you, you have lost a part of your soul. I am so pleased that my soul is still intact "

Jan thank you, never in a million years could I complete with your stunning photos, but you have inspired me to at least try. At the moment I am still at the stage where I desperately ask "Birdie, please sit still" :lol:

A special thanks to Rodger and Elina who ensure that everyone has a marvellous stay at Tzendse :clap: :clap:

Morning Hilda, yes the Capricorn loop was a delight with plenty of places just to sit and enjoy.
I was extremely fortunate with the variety of antelope :clap:

Philip1 - "Discovering this idyllic place, we find ourselves filled with a yearning to linger here, where time stands still and beauty overwhelms". - Unknown :gflower:

Thank you, I think it was Shakespeare who said “I like this place and could willingly waste my time in it.”

"

Hilda, my focus was bad as I really did not want to see the details :lol:

Mizzbee, I got to see two species I have never seen in the Kruger before :dance: :dance:

Jan, you are ever so knd, one day when I have mastered a camera (my son thinks never :lol: ) I will come to you for lessons. You had better start praying that I never master a camera, I know my son does :lol:
