Jan, as always, your images are superb.

Please enlighten me (and interested people within the group):
1) what equipment you primarily use, and
2) what post-processing you go through to get such brilliant shots.

Jealousy and envy are two of the seven deadly sins, but I often suffer from both when I see such images

Photographs help to crystallize memories, but cannot be seen to be a replacement of them!

My pleasure to share all the info..

1) Canon 1D Mark1v with a 400mm zoom lens (dreaming off a 500mm)
2) We shoot in raw and process the images in photoshop
3) Lots of patience....spending hours at a place waiting for some action

Thank you for asking

If you need some help please pm me and will send you a easy processing plan for photoshop...

A few days at Lake Panic.

My wife and I have spent the last three days at Panic. As usual Panic always throws up something out of the ordinary.

Sightings include, leopard each day, wild dogs just passing thru, and elephant, and the usual bush buck, impala, nyala, and duiker.

For birds it's nesting season and six grey herons are disputing the best nesting sights and trying to win the heart of the most attractive female. Lots of in flight action with herons collecting twigs for the nests, testing your inflight bird photo skills. The fish eagles have taken exception to the nesting grey herons and have been dive bombing the herons on a regular basis, so lots of action very close to the hide.

The Hadeda Ibis are also nesting to the right of the hide. Plenty of Malachite, Brown Hooded, and Pied Kingfishers around.

The star of the show was a large Boomslang snake draped across a branch that overhangs the entrance to the hide, no fear of people, the snake watched the parade of visitors for a couple of hours.

No doubt within a few weeks at least three nests will have Grey Heron chicks. But a lack of Green Backed herons and Goliath herons.

I will try and post some images this coming weekend.
