Thank you LQ and Tessa for the comments

Tessa, all ways a change.....In my experience over the years they visit LP from 10h00 to 14h00 when Ellies normally bath and drink water. Unfortunately the light is harsh but you can under expose and still get great shots(that is if you shoot on raw).

Last year we just missed the Ellies swimming +- 5 meter from the hide to the other side........

Hope LP will be full again and the Hippos can pose for a few shots...never took your eyes of and you will miss the yawn.... :hmz:

Hello Jan.

We saw no Woodies at Lake Panic or in Southern Kruger up until we left Kruger on the 12th November.

The Woodies follow the rain hence … no rain … no woodies
.
The other usual summer inhabitants at Lake Panic were all conspicuous by their absence.

There was only one Grey Heron around and the heronry in the big tree on the ‘island’ in front of the hide which last October and in previous years was a sight to behold with stacks of nests occupied by their funny looking fledglings was deserted.

Even the Village Weavers which should be hard at work courting and building nests were missing.

We counted five sorry looking nests in the tree and saw not one weaver while at LP.

Do the birds know something we do not?

A consolation is that we had a Squacco hunting right in front of the hide and an African Paradise Flycatcher in the tree opposite plus a Reed Warbler, Brown-hooded Kingfisher, some Nyala and the other regulars - EGs and Thick Knees.

I will post some pics of the weavers and herons from last October as well as some pics from last week.

Jesscan1, we were missing the weavers as well! Last year they were so busy and now only a couple. Not many king fishers as last year as well.

Some of my Lake Panic pictures. I just started to archive the pictures on my computer after my trip Oct 25 - nov 8.
Only 9000 more to go through!

This bush buck was eating the leaves in the water. And we almost saw her getting eaten by the big croc! It was a close call as he missed her bij inches...

Lets hope  that the rain come soon (saw on the web cam rain at Satara) and all the birdies will return to LP.

Are the Hippos still there and is the level still low?

Super Heron shot

Beautiful sightings and images MarijeNL ...specially the silhouette   ... and thank you for the update

The hippo's were there!
And I think the water level was pretty much the same as last year at the same time if I remember correctly.
