Beautiful pics Jo & Switchback  !
Jo, I see the owl is still present in your photo below. If you watch my video clip of the same scenery closely, you will see a very fast owl fly away just before the clip fades out  .

Now that everyone has been 'wowwed', it is time to come back to earth!

For those who like their creature comforts, privacy at times, this was as good as it gets.

The loo with a view. Apologies to those who go to the 'bathroom', it is a bit small and VERY unsuitable....

If you want to do the trail, it is either this or knyp.

The shower.

You attach your bag/camp shower/bladder to the rope. hoist it to the appropriate height, stand under it, pop it and run around.

Still wanna come along?

Just got home half an hour ago - plane delayed 4 hours due to getting struck by lightning

5degC and snow promised for tomorrow. I'm missing that heat already

OK, off to download over a 100gig of pics so I can join in as well with the photos..........

P.S. Weskusklong, what's the name/artist of the music you are adding to your clips?

Whistle or sing while in performance, or when approaching, yell so that your approach is heard and can be deterred!

Thunderclouds build up over Swartbas with the first showers of the season starting to fall.

I'm BAAAAACK ....

Need to sort through a gazillion photos and deal with all the drama here - alarm system seems to be malfunctioning, our geyser burst at 5am this morning and the one cat seems to have a massive hole in his jaw - I suspect a burst abcess - so off to the vet for 8.30 :slap:

Welcome home ....

But hey, the trip was AWESOME .... and we all survived the Kalahari BUG - very very nasty ...

Wonderful pics guys! Those loos and showers are the best in the world! With such a view who can complain?

Welcome home Scouter - hope things turn for the better soon!

@Barcud, glad you're home safely! Finding licensed stuff is really expensive - from $30 per 1min loop . There are some royalty free stuff on the net, but the pool is very small. With the intro being an exception, the rest I plan to use is royalty free music from Kevin MacLeod from incompetech. I will add a credit scroll with all the ISRC numbers etc. with the final production.

Welcome home Scouter!!

Although it seems it was not quite the "welcome" you expected...

Ok, so are we ready to depart from Swartbas or is there still a fire engine that needs to be loaded...?

How do you know if it's occupied?

For your own good, hang a plastic bag or something visible on the fence. However I make the habit of calling "Anybody home?" when approaching, sure thing the one day with seemingly no-one occupying the loo, there was a rather anxious "yes" reply...

Oo.. I forgot to mention... the one loo at Witgat does not have a tarp anymore (looks like it was removed by hyenas or something) so it has the advantage that you can actually SEE if there is anybody present.

That loo is a whole lot better than one of those plastic portaloos

Agree ... the acoustics is excellent as well.

Hi!
I'm really enjoying your photos and videos, it must have been a great experience!
Can't wait, I will be there in less than 20 days...

I have a question: since there are scorpions (nice photos Switchback! ), is it safe to go around in the camp in flip-flops or barefoot (as I saw in a picture some page back)? We are planning to take only closed shoes for the camps, are we too anxious?

It's always best be to be carefull, the one I photographed is not really poisonous, but there are ones around that are more potent - not life threatening for adults though.

When walking around in flip-flops at night, just have a look out where you walk. Also know that scorpions are drawn to heat, like the camp fire at night. When putting on your shoes in the morning or before getting in your sleeping back, just give it a quick shake out to be on the safe side.
