Superb pictures from the Cubitjie Quap waterhole.  You really do find out how harsh life is out there in the desert, especially when water is scarce.

We had great sightings there two years ago.

I could see the herd of Blue Wildebeest approaching from the river. From the way in which they were walking I knew that they expected to (or had to) find water at the waterhole. Unfortunately a lone sub-adult bateleur was sitting in the middle (I could not see if there were still any water available). They very quickly made their intentions clear and the less confident bateleur decided to rather leave.

Now that they were in control of the waterhole they had to find water.......

Unfortunately it would appear that mankind (or do we blame nature) has let them down. They send a delegation to inspect.

The news was not good!!! The wildebeest left without a drop to drink. I might be overstating it but I experienced such a different message or body language from them when they left, they were almost dragging their feet as they move back to the Nossob river bed.

The next to arrive, although I could almost describe it as crash landed was a secretary bird. By now some bateleur tried to claim back the waterhole.

The king of the waterhole (for the moment) - the secretary bird

Still no water so the kingdom did not last that long!!

Tobio,
Incredible bird photos
Beautiful pics of the secretary bird coming in for landing
Wow, how tough for the animals to walk to a waterhole expecting to quench their thirst and not a drop of water :( :( :sori:
and they quietly turn and walk away :(
Imagine IF that were us humans  ....the moaning, complaints and carry on  :eviltreath:
