Field Guides

Hello Imberbe,

Would you know if Pitta Joffe's book, Creative Gardening with Indigenous Plants, A South African guide, is a good resource to have when identifying plants in gardens in the Gauteng area? If not, which one do you suggest?

That is an excellent book. For plant identification it is not the best though.

Two top books in my opinion:

A Fieldguide to Wild Flowers: Kwazulu-Natal and the eastern Region
Elsa Pooley
ISBN 0-620-21500-3
Natal Flora Publications Trust

(Though aimed at KZN it is still useful for the Highveld region.)

Field Guide to the Wild Flowers of the Highveld
Braam van Wyk and Sasa Malan
ISBN 1-86872-058-6
1998 2nd impression
Imberbe = Combretum imberbe = Leadwood = Hardekool = The spirit of the Wildernis!
