No, they are not in the Kruger Park, Shangri-la.

You do however get the Banded Mongoose and the Dwarf Mongoose in the Kruger that are social and high on the cuteness factor. The Dwarf Mongoose, in particular, are very inquisitive little creatures.

There are some delightful pictures of Banded Mongoose on Ecojunkie's thread.
The bird doesn't sing because it has answers, it sings because it has a song.

Seeing meerkat is definitely one of the biggest highlights of a trip to the Kgalagadi…I just love them.
@Peter Betts…that is a stunning shot!

We had a few sightings during our trip last year, this one was near Grootkolk

I got this photo…

…but I think the photo my SO got, is a real classic.

Stunning photo's everyone

My moms neighbour has a meerkat as a pet  Can you believe it?
Dont know where she got him, rather didnt ask. But she had to get a permit. A while ago however she had to take him to the vet to remove his canines. And now the lady still cant walk bearfoot, as he recently decided he like toes. He runs around with her small dogs , lies in the sun during the day, sleeps on her bed at night. And trust me, NO thieve will dare enter into their yard - even without canines HE BITES!

The first time he bit the lady, she had to get a Tetanus injection and now the poor meerkat has had all his vaccinations

Wild animals should rather remain in the wild. Not used as pets, doesn't matter how cute they are. Anyway that's my opinion

Yolande, I agree with you there.

I once met someone walking a Meercat on a lead. She had "taken it on" after the owners had been unable to cope. In their defence, it had been an orphan.

She told me that she no longer had a garden, carpets or reasonable furniture. As we were talking a plane flew overhead and the little creature went into a panic and tried to dive for cover, as his instinct told him, "danger, eagle".

PLEASE HELP US REF MEERKATS IN ADDO

We are going to South Africa at the end of June this year and intended to see the meerkats at oudtshoorn, until i read on there site that you can't take pictures (if this was for the meerkats safety we wouldn't mind but its because they have sold the media rights and £30 isn't that cheap)
i have seen a few posts here about people spotting them at Addo could anyone advise me as to roughly where in the park they were seen, which gate was used etc? or would rangers know?
we are desperate to see them but naturally we want to photgraph them!
any help would be greatly appreciated.
