As far as we know there is no stable population of African Straw-coloured Fruit Bat in South Africa which migrate to SA season to season and the records that are around are from individuals who have popped up here and there, mostly in the central parts of South Africa. It is a non breeding migratory species however there is a probable breeding colony at Marromeu in Mozambique, which would be the closest, distance wise, to Pafuri.

One must also remember that Pafuri is known as the bat capital of South Africa and is known for producing once off, weird and wonderful species. Thus, the chances of ASCFB having been recorded here are likely, but the chances of it being encountered within the rest of the park are very low, and thus that record from a few years back would most probably have been just that, a once off sighting.

Bat - Epauletted Fruit Bat

There was a small group of these hanging in a tree next to the swimming pool at Lower Sabie.
They were quite exposed in broad day light. I would have thought they roost in a more sheltered spot.
