Please see MZNP_Guides' post :
MZNP_Guides wrote:Hi me again!

If anyone has some good photos of the cheetah at Mountain Zebra NP and know which ones they saw (maybe told during a cheetah tracking drive or by a staff member), or even if you don't know, I would appreciate some to make a cheetah ID guide for visitors to the Park.

Preferably front and side photos, of the animal walking, sitting or lying. Walking or in an upright position is the best. The approximate location and date seen could also help us with the ID. This will also help us to know in which area the cheetah are, if seen by guests and will enhance the experience of visitors to the Park as they can get some info on the cheetah they spotted.

Photos can be emailed to me at charl.lyell@sanparks.org

Much appreciated!

Hi Bridget
Yes H 1-1 has been very good for us. During our five day stay in Pretoriuskop last November we had four leopard sightings (one a female and her cub) and eleven Cheetah sightings all on H 1-1 between Shitlhave dam and Transport junction. I'm sure some of the cats are repeats but lots of action. :great:

Carol you where very lucky seeing so many cheetahs

The only place where we have seen Cheetahs in the park was in the Crocodile Bridge region and the area around the Sweni Road S126 close to Satara and around Mopani - Letaba (Then again, they are all over the show)

We we're at Lower Sabie over the Christmas 2013 holidays and 27 December SO decided to rest at camp :naughty: whilst I go on a drive around 10am :P . I decided to drive the tar towards Crocodile Bridge and then on impulse decided to take the S130 Gomondwane Loop. I was driving at a good 15km/h and was rewarded coming across a mother and cub on a hunting spree. Needless to say SO wasn’t very impressed

Just a reminder to record (with as much detail as possible) your cheetah sightings in KNP and submit them to the above :D

RolfB :D I saw this boy too - 3kms north of Shingwedzi on Sept 5 this year. The most epic sighting. 10mins alone with him.

I did some asking regarding the collar and EWT shared the following info with me :D

- Managed to identify the cheetah to the Timbavati Cheetah Project
- He was born in 2008 and collared in 2010 before he became independent in 2011 and moved into Kruger.

So please keep an eye out when in the Shingwedzi area and report any sightings of him  It will be of great help.

Please join us and help with the Cheetah and wild dog census. We need your photos to help us with this research.

In Early October we saw three Cheetah south of the Nhlanguleni picnic spot. One was sitting on a large termite mound when we arrived.
Image
It then headed south to join the other two who had left the mound a moment before we got there.
Image
Image
It joined its siblings back in the bush where it was difficult to see them, but I managed to get a couple of shots.

This trip was a Big and Small Cat jackpot for us, as we saw many, many Lion, Multiple Leopard, and these three Cheetah, along with another which was camera shy, north of Satara. We also saw, multiple African Wild Cat, including kittens with mom, Genets, and Civets.

Sandeep, we have seen Serval in Kruger before, but have never seen Caracal in the wild. Only time was at a rehabilitation centre where we watched an old one eyed Caracal jump about 3 meters into the air to grab a half chicken that was thrown for it. Quite an amazing sight, but not nearly as magical as seeing one in the wild. We do always love spotting Cheetah. Our best Cheetah sighting was very early on a morning game drive, when we came upon a mother with 5 youngsters at an Impala kill, who were joined by two adult males (Harry and Will of Lower Sabie fame). The males went on to steal the Impala from the mother and her large brood.
