This lone bull at Manzimhlope on the S-36 about a month ago:

This is definitely the second best road for sable, after the Pretoriuskop area!

There is a herd of 19 Sable ( beautiful big bull included ) who have a large home range . They are seen on the S36 between Muzandzeni picnic spot and S145 , They have been seen drinking at mondzweni waterhole as well as on the S125 at ngwenyeni waterhole. Regulary seen on the Mluwati concession (Hamiltons, Imbali , Hoyo Hoyo lodges)

There is also a lone bull , displaced from the above group that can also be seen in the same area.

There is another group (+- 6) that is seen once in a while at Lugmag Dam or Nhlanguleni picnic spot , but I don't know much about there home range.
There are no shortcuts to any place worth going....

I don't know if we're allowed to transplant pics from the forum gallery, but here's a new one from:

Geoff and Ann Ansell Western Australia

Taken North of Mopani in Kruger.

Image

My points are as follows:

Looking at sightings over the last few years the Far Northern Sable have become the rarest large antelope to spot there, surpassing even roan, eland and Liechtenstein's!

Also, if you look at the pic, there seems to be a marked difference in colouration compared to the lighter brown southern sable, with the pregnant cow in the front being very dark in colour, and ditto for the youngster in the foreground!

Methinks this deserves some investigation!
