Wonderful news about the introduction of the 8-wild-dog pack in October. Thanks for the excellent news, Elsa.   Does this mean there are now TWO packs in the Shingwedzi area? A contemporary saw a pack of around 20 dogs near Red Rocks a month ago, so I assume that his sighting is an original pack in the area, and that the 8 dogs + lone female that was integrated is a second pack?

During our November trip to Letaba, we were really fortunate to see a small pack of wild dogs just outside the gate on the tar road to Mopani (1km after the turn). In over six years of visits here, we have barely even heard of any sightings!! According to some of the staff members we spoke to in the hall, they were around a few months ago. They had been a pack of 5 but one has since disappeared. We also heard a few days ago that they are still around and killed an impala just outside of the staff camp. Great to see they are doing well!!

(Sorry about the poor pictures - caught them at 18:28 and they were running into the bush)

Just back from SA,and whilst in KNP was lucky to see the Orpen pack of wild dogs.
We saw them about half way between Orpen and Satara,on the road, and fanning out in the bush on both sides.
I estimated about 20+ dogs on the road and lots in the bush,so could easily be 30 to 40 in total! Anyone know the number of this pack.?
Unfortunately we had to leave them to make gate closing at Satara but for 20 mins it was a memorable sighting.
