Have anyone witnessed such grieving behaviour by Burchell's Zebras?

We witnessed this behaviour during a Kruger trip near Satara on S39.
Wild Card blog published this article which summed up this heartache experience

I agree.

Kaapsedraai, it is heartbreaking to witness certain things.

I think Zebras share a deeper bond than we think. I have noticed behaviour in zebras recently in Kruger and non-Sanparks reserves - They are frequently making physical contact, and when they are not eating, I see then very often leaning against each other, resting their heads on each others' backs. On one of the game drives 2 weeks ago, the ranger also commented on the family bonds.

Having said that, I believe all animals feel the loss of their offspring or herd / pack members in some form or another.

manicwalker, Meandering Mouse and Karin Mitton - thank you for the responses. :D

I also enjoyed an amazing incident in ADDO a few years ago when a herd of thirsty zebras trying to intimidate an elephant to move away from a small water hole.
They are really remarkable animals to spend time with.
