Re: thulamela guided tour

Discuss activities available in the Kruger National Park, and follow all the sighting reports.

I see that the tour starts at Punda Maria at 7 AM. When I want to join at Pafuri picnic site, I suppose it starts later? Is there an exact time for that?

Dionni, I think that it would b best to contact Punda Maria reception. I am only aware of the tour leaving from Punda, not Pafuri. I might be wrong though.

I have a booking for Kruger in April next year. Punda Maria is our last camp.
I wanted to do the heritage walk to Thulamela but found out today that is closed and has been for some months.
please can someone update me on the situation!

Morning Mites;

Unfortunately the Thulamela Guided Tour is not operational due to unavailability of the guide/s.

Thanks Les,
that's such a pity, hopefully it can be resumed when more guides become available one day.

Lesego That is a great disappointment I will now try to change my accommodation at Punda as This is the second time we have tried to book it and not been able to go I would think this historical site would take top priority as I am sure many foreign tourists would love to see it as after all it is an important part of South Africa's history . Have been to the Zimbabwe ruins and Mpungubwe and the ruins on the nylaland trail so would like to see these ruins too. Pity

Thulamela ruins

Unread post by michaelj » Sat Jun 17, 2017 4:16 pm

Hi All

we are camping at Punda Maria in October 2017 and thinking about visiting Thulamela. Do we have to go on an organised drive from Punda Maria or may we drive ourselves?
Are there guides at Thulamela or only on a trip from Punda Maria?

Thanks

Mike & Gill

First of all, a warm Welcome to the forum michaelj .
You can't go by yourself to the ruins and you have to book a guided tour at Punda Maria restcamp.
The guides will drive you close to the ruins and then you have to walk a little bit.
I've been there a few years ago and believe me it's interesting to visit this magical place in Kruger .Baobabs add something special :hmz:
I will try to find some pictures I took at that time

A very warm welcome to you, michealj :D :k

Goronta has given excellent advice on the ruins.

Goronta, thank you for those wonderful images. I will be staying with my family at Punda in December. One of our highlights will be a visit to the ruins. I am really looking forward to it.
