Anyone been to Pkop lately? We are heading off on Friday to Pkop for a long weekend. Are there any notable sightings of late?

Hi K-4S

I don't know what has been seen lately, but ASK at reception where the 3 leopard cubs were seen last -- they should be about 7-8 monhts old now. Usually they reappear every now and then and sit in a tree on the little 1 km loop about 1.5 km east of Pretoriuskop. Just go straight in an Easterly direction when you hit the intersection (instead of turning right onto the Fayi/Voortrekker road section) and check that small loop around the koppie out, especially the tree at the end just where the road turns left...
If you do have any luck, do let us know!
God bless,
Friedrich.

We took Friday off and were at Pretoriuskop over the weekend past and we had great sightings. 3 different lion sightings. Leopard and wild dog less than 3km from the camp gate. We had these great sightings with very little antelope however. Over the entire weekend we saw three impala and four buffalo and three waterbuck. Kudu were seen aplenty on the other hand.

All in all a successful weekend!! Nice to get out of the city for a while.

K-4S, what a stunning weekend.  Probably the only time in the history of Kruger that someone saw more lion than impala.   Any pics?

K-4s,

Just read your post, but see you were lucky to spot the dogs and lions. The leopard cubs are still around and quite big. See link to FB of them.

Good day

We are going to be at Pretorius Kop next weekend. I would just like to know if any one know if the leopards and cubs are still around at that loop close to the camp.

And if there are any other resident animals close to camp which is worth while looking for.

And how is the sightings around Pretorius Kop this time of year as it will be our first visit to the camp.

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you

Just spend to days at Pretorius Kop. Sightings is difficult as the grass is very long. We spotted a leopard 500 meter from camp gate. The wild dogs was also at Shitlhave dam.

Camp is nice and clean and it has a good atmosphere.

Hi,

We saw a pack of wild dogs near Shitlhave dam last month. There is a mention of these earlier in this thread from a few years ago as well so it sounds like as good an area to look as any.
We also saw sable on the loop past the Napi Boulders about half an hour after this.
It was around 6:15-6:20am and they were on the road for max 5 minutes, but we went down to the dam afterwards and saw 2 dogs chasing impala shortly afterwards.

Good luck,

Scott

Just returned from 5 nights at Pretoriuskop and have enjoyed it tremendously.

I will definitely book again at Pretoriuskop.

I will do a trip report with photos as soon as I can work through all the photos.

Sable, Rhino, leopard, buffalo, elephant, klipspringer and so much more form part of the sightings around the camp.

Thanks Gerharrd for reporting.

Will be here in one week and hope to see all that you saw there and a lot of birds.

In 2010,Pretoriuskop was our favorite camp for sightings in the south :D
