Bridgeman the inspiring ranger

Unread postby Graham_5000 » Fri Aug 30, 2013 11:13 pm

Some of you will have read Bridgeman's Phabeni Gate reports I'm sure. He has now relocated to Biyamiti, where he is awaiting permission to write reports of the game drives there. My wife and I were massively privileged to do a Sunset Drive with Bridgeman and his protege Trevor at Biyamiti on the 14th of August. We were the only two guests in the vehicle - I'm sure this is a common thing at such a small camp.

We have had a number of game drives in our lives, but never before have we encountered a ranger who presents information in such an engaging way - very often from a scientific angle. We were also impressed that he deliberately stopped the car without being asked in order to suggest we take pictures of the magnificent sunset and admire it for a moment or two. Rangers who live in Kruger most of the year might perhaps take the sunsets for granted, but Bridgeman clearly tries to think of everything that a visitor to Kruger might want to spend some extra time enjoying.

We saw lots of rhino on the drive, buffalo, elephants, giraffe (including a sleeping one shortly after the sun set!), a scorpion, the usual game and two sleeping male lions. Thank you very much Bridgeman!

Graham, I still remember Bridgeman's first post.It was about listening to the silence. I knew then that he was a gem.

Andrew had his hip replacement op yesterday.

Posted this morning on the facebook page:
Andrew Desmet

Morning everyone! Thanks again for all the well wishes, messages & prayers. I'm now in the high care unit and just finished my bed bath for the day @ 04h15... You got to love hospitals! Pain seems okay.. Had lots of nausea last night and brought up any water or anything I tried to drink (I think because of anesthetic) seems better this morning, taking small sips and its staying down. Lots of blood in the wound drain emptied twice already ... Otherwise feel okay and hope you all have a great & blessed day!

I was lucky to have gone on a sunset drive from Olifants with Bridgeman 4 years ago, what a wonderful experience!

Andrew posted this yesterday:
Andrew Desmet posted to Andrew Desmet Support Group

Hi Everyone... Sorry for the delay in sending out news... Huge thank you for messages of support, prayers, thoughts - I cannot describe how much stronger it makes me. I've been in the high care ward for four days now... Things seem to be slowly on the mend ... Hip/ leg still swollen and very tender but doctor is happy with the way the recovery is progressing... I started mobilizing yesterday and twice walked down to the bathroom (about 20m away) ... I'm moving to one of the general wards later today and will also be receiving a dose of radiation to try halt excessive bone deposits around injury..otherwise culture results from bone & bullet fragments removed during the operation indicate no infectious bacteria.. Which is a big positive...thanks again ... Hope you all have a wonderful day

Thanx DB. Andrew hang in there. Been down that road and the only advice I can give is to follow the doctor's and physio's instructions. If you do that your recovery will be some much more.

Regards

Pops
