This pic is of the interior of the old, circular, ablution block at Lower Sabie which is still in use. It will probably be changed beyond recognition in the upgrades they are doing there, and it could do with an upgrade, the baths and showers are very tatty, but hopefully they will retain the old atmosphere.

I remember it from the first time we visited Kruger in 1987, and as of March 2014 it was unchanged from our first visit.

The shop at Lower Sabie, in 1987, was in a room of the reception building. I remember buying a toothbrush there, and also a length of fabric, that beige impala lily and birds fabric which was regulation Kruger issue curtains and bedspreads at that time.

Thank you for posting this Kruger photo Chirinda :gflower: . I remember those impala lily and birds bedspreads and curtains :D . It was very Kruger - Kruger like having tea and a bush snack at the Tshokwane Tea Room :) before taking a slow drive along the Sabie River to see the elephants.

I love the Giulietta. I had a 1600 GT junior. Endless problems but loved it too.

Heres one of Mlondozi lookout in 1965

I specifically visited Skukuza to go and stand under the sycamore tree after seeing this photo...

Imagine the stories it could tell from the past 70 odd years...

Pontoon at Skukuza over Sabie River in the 1930's by Dr P Greyling

I met an old gentleman at Lake Panic that has been visiting the Park since he was a small boy with his family in the 1950's

It was even at that stage not possible to cross the Sabi unless it was late in the dry season.

There were signs that you were not allowed to switch off the vehicle when at a sighting as those years you had to get out of the car to swing start the car again...

The above photo makes me understand a bit more what he meant...
